Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions about the service.
What is ZIPN?
ZIPN is a free URL shortener that turns long URLs into memorable short addresses. Share text and files too, and choose custom codes using Korean or English letters and numbers.
What are the benefits of signing up?
Members can create permanent URL and text links. Guest links expire within one month. For member file sharing, the address is permanent, but files last 30 days up to 10 MB, 7 days over 10 MB to 1 GB, or 2 days over 1 GB. When a file expires, its stored copy is deleted and downloads stop. Upload a replacement from Edit to restart the period. Manage all links and view click statistics in your dashboard.
How do I share a file?
Choose File sharing on the home page or dashboard, upload a document, image, or archive up to 5 GB, and choose a short code. Files upload directly to Cloudflare R2. They are deleted automatically after 30 days up to 10 MB, 7 days over 10 MB to 1 GB, or 2 days over 1 GB.
Are member file links permanent too?
The short address is permanent. File retention and download availability last 30 days up to 10 MB, 7 days over 10 MB to 1 GB, or 2 days over 1 GB. After that, the stored copy is deleted and downloads stop, but the address remains. Upload a new file through Edit in the dashboard to restart the download period.
Can I use Korean short codes?
Yes. Korean codes work on both domains, alongside English letters and numbers. Choose a memorable name for your short link.
When do guest links expire?
Choose 24 hours, 48 hours, 1 week, or 1 month. The default is 1 week. On expiration, the link and any shared file are deleted.
What do member addresses look like?
Member addresses normally use the permanent form zipn.app/username/code, for example zipn.app/teacher/math. You can also create temporary addresses without a username, such as zipn.app/code.
Can I create a short address without a username while signed in?
Yes. Select the temporary address option next to the short code field to create zipn.app/code without signing out. Temporary addresses share a namespace with all users and expire after 24 hours to one month. Temporary links created while signed in appear in your dashboard with their remaining time. You can edit, delete, extend them before expiration, or move them under your own code as permanent links.
Can I change my personal code (username) later?
You can change it once every 30 days from your dashboard. All existing short addresses change immediately, and previously shared links stop working. Your old code is released for others to use. You cannot choose a code already used by someone else.
Can I shorten URLs with an API?
Yes. Use POST requests to our REST API. See the API documentation for details.
Are QR codes available?
Yes. A QR code is generated when you shorten a URL. Download it for printed materials or other uses.
My short link isn't working.
Guest links are deleted automatically after expiration. Member URL and text links remain until their owner deletes them. Member file downloads expire after their storage period (30 days up to 10 MB, 7 days up to 1 GB, or 2 days over 1 GB). Upload a replacement through Edit to restart availability. Contact us if the problem continues.
